Volunteer Opportunities
As a non-profit organization, the Berkshire Historical Society and Arrowhead operates with a very small staff. Approximately 90% of our summer staff are volunteers. We could not operate without our wonderful volunteers. Our volunteers enjoy each other’s company, learn about Berkshire County, and have a good time while doing the work that supports this organization. We are reliant on volunteers for all phases of our operation from the Board of Directors, to docents, gift shop helpers, archivists, committee members, exhibit set-up people, as well as what’s listed below.
Areas where volunteers are needed include:
- We currently have an opportunity for a volunteer interested in working on membership and development – the newsletter, events, etc.
- Arrowhead tour guides
- Arrowhead Shop assistants
- Exhibition assistants
- Grounds care
- Gardening
- Special events help
- Volunteers may contribute as few or as many hours as are convenient for their schedules.
What’s in it for You?
Volunteers get the satisfaction of knowing they are making a substantial and invaluable contribution to preserving a vital piece of American history as well as acting as custodians of the Berkshires’ local heritage. In addition, the work of BHS helps to safeguard the strength of the community by preserving the community’s collective memory. If you are a newcomer to the area, volunteering is a great way to learn about the area and meet great people.
Other benefits of being a BHS/Arrowhead volunteer include:
- A 20% discount in the Arrowhead Shop
- Free admission to Arrowhead
- Volunteer social events
