DESCRIPTION:Berkshire County Historical Society celebrates Orchard Day with a guided history hike\, family activities\, and a hard cider and beer tasting. Be the first to try a new hard cider made exclusively from heirloom apples grown at Herman Melville’s Arrowhead. Berkshire Cider Project and Hot Plate Brewing will lead guided tastings of ciders and beers made as part of the Berkshire250 and MA250 celebration of American Independence. Kids of all ages can enjoy fresh pressed cider and cider donuts. \n10am – Start the day with a hike up Constitution Hill in Lanesborough\, a Berkshire Natural Resources Council property\, and learn about the history of the site. After the hike\, taste “Constitution Hill\,” a hard cider created by Berkshire Cider Project to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and learn about its development.  \nThe hike is 1.7 miles round trip and is moderate. Meet at the trailhead: https://www.bnrc.org/reserves/constitution-hill. Please note: Due to bridge construction on Bridge Street\, please access Constitution Hill trailhead via Putnam Road\, then take a right onto Meadow Lane. This brings you back to Bridge Street and bypasses the construction. \nBACK AT ARROWHEAD\nNoon-2pm – Join us for tours of the orchard and cider tastings with Berkshire Cider Project. Learn about our unique cider made from Arrowhead apples and how Melville made his own cider in the nineteenth century. SUMMARY:H. Knox...On the Knox Trail
DESCRIPTION:The Berkshire County Historical Society and Bidwell House Museum will co-host a screening with filmmaker Jonathan Barkan. In 1973\, emerging professional photographer and media producer Jonathan Barkan was contracted by the Massachusetts Bicentennial Commission. His assignment – create a multi-projector traveling slide show to inspire a statewide reenactment and tell the story of Revolutionary War hero Henry Knox and his plan to retrieve and haul cannons from Fort Ticonderoga\, New York\, to Boston\, Massachusetts. This historic event linked the entire Commonwealth from west to east and led directly to the first major military victory of the War for Independence–Evacuation Day.  \nThe original media program has been modernized for twenty-first century audiences as a state-of-the-art video. It is enlivened by additional imagery and retains a re-creation with period cannon\, draft horses\, and oxen that was filmed at  the Jug End Resort in South Egremont. Mr. Barkan will screen the video and briefly share his personal experiences and production challenges…both then and now. \nTickets are $10 for BCHS members\, $15 for non-members\, and can be purchased by using the BOOK NOW button.  \nAbout Jonathan Barkan\nJonathan Barkan is the executive producer/director and founder of Communications for Learning (CFL)\, a full-service communications firm with offices in Conway and Arlington\, Massachusetts. His work demonstrates a career-long commitment to the accuracy\, appeal\, and creative presentation of essential content\, the value of careful process design and project management\, and aesthetic and production quality. \nHe is multi-disciplined\, with education and experience in communications strategy\, media direction and production\, graphic and 3-D design\, photography and video\, sound recording\, music\, teaching\, and consulting. His extensive experience includes the management and creative direction of high-profile video\, slide\, and desktop multi-media presentations\, interactive and web-based media\, events\, print graphics\, and exhibits. SUMMARY:Run for the Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Join in the on-going celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and Run for the Revolution! This race\, presented in partnership with the Berkshire Running Foundation\, takes place at the Pittsfield State Forest with three distance options. The course is an out and back 5K run down a foliage lined street that leads out of the state forest then circles back to the start. Attendees can take part in the loop once for a 5K distance\, twice for the 10K\, and three times around for a 15K distance. Not a runner?  No problem – walkers are encouraged for all 3 distances. Proceeds benefit BCHS preservation and education programs. \nRegistration includes cider and cider donuts at the finish and a red\, long-sleeve performance race tee shirt. DESCRIPTION:The popular nineteenth-century tradition of the parlour concert is celebrated with a festive holiday-themed harpsichord and vocal performance by Richard Franklin Donohue in Arrowhead’s historic parlour. Arrowhead will be decorated for the season; tea and cookies will be served following the concert. \nHistorian and musician Richard Franklin Donohue will explore an extraordinary repertoire of Christmas music from the tenth through the nineteenth centuries with carols presented in their original languages of German\, Latin\, Middle English\, French\, and modern English sung a cappella and with harpsichord accompaniment. \n Richard Franklin Donohue is a singer\, private music instructor\, and historian.
