“Moby-Dick” – the 2nd Annual Marathon

Where it was written…

Over the winter of 1850-1851, Herman Melville worked in his study at Arrowhead, creating one of the greatest works in American literature.  From August 2 – 5, the Berkshire County Historical Society at Arrowhead is pleased to host the second annual marathon reading of that great work, Moby-Dick.  Please join us!

On August 2, 3, and 4, eighty-three different readers shared Moby-Dick, in 10-minute chunks, from 10 am to 5 pm, except for Sunday August 5, when we took a break to hike Monument Mountain in commemoration of the day Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville met.
