Old Salts Day

Professional sailors can take a free tour on Tuesday, August 1. So if you’ve served in any country’s navy or coast guard, worked a commercial fishing boat, merchant ship, or if you can give a convincing story about the time you were a pirate, come on board! www.mobydick.org for tour times.
Herman Melville was born on August 1, 1819. To celebrate, the Berkshire County Historical Society at Arrowhead is holding an “Old Salts” Day. In addition to serving on a merchant ship and three whaling ships, Melville was a veteran of the US Navy.
