Samuel J. Ballato 1914 - 1996
Sergeant Ballato served as a mechanic in the 397th Bombardment Squadron, part of the 6th Air Force. The 397th flew 4-engine B-24 bombers on long-distance patrols over the Pacific and the Caribbean from their bases in Panama and the Galapagos Islands.
After receiving an honorable discharge in November, 1945, Ballato returned to Pittsfield. He worked at General Electric for many years. Ballato and Mary Valente married in April, 1950.
His uniform shirt is in the collection of the Berkshire County Historical Society.
