Walter Dojka 1920 - 1999
Walter Dojka served in the US Navy as Motor Machinist’s Mate First Class on the LST 910. This “Landing Ship, Tank” was one of the workhorses of the war, quickly delivering large quantities of supplies, equipment, and troops directly to the beachheads.
Dojka served in the engine room as the LST 910 supported invasions of several South Pacific islands. After the war ended in August 1945, the ship sailed to Japan and China. It was scrapped in 1948.
After the war, Dojka returned to work at GE in Pittsfield. He and his wife, Mary O’Brien Dojka, lived in Lanesborough.
