The annual celebration of the famous literary hike up (and down) Monument Mountain. In August, 1850, Herman Melville met Nathaniel Hawthorne at Monument Mountain, striking up an immediate friendship. Commemorate that occasion with a guided hike, “champagne” toast, and a reading of “Monument Mountain” by William Cullen Bryant. Meet in the Monument Mountain parking lot on Route 7 at 9:00.
