Bring your fairy wings to a children's workshop on Sunday, July 2, from 1 to 3:00. Artist Betsy Baczek will demonstrate how to build a fairy house, to take home. Materials provided. Workshop is free, though donations greatly appreciated! At Arrowhead, 780 Holmes Road, Pittsfield. Reservations not required.
Find out more »Exhibit Opens: Captain Ahab visits Arrowhead
Captain Ahab in the form of a three-foot tall, 40 pound, bright yellow, wooden fisherman/wannabe pirate captain! Geeg Wiles will have an exhibit including the famous garden gnome, starting July 4 (closing July 18) in the big red barn at Herman Melville’s Arrowhead. Learn about the evolution of Ahab’s adventures: How a 74-year-old “Big Fish” story about a boy, his grandfather and a lawn gnome evolved into a motivational movement.

Natural habitats for fairies! Led by Betsy Sherman and Marilyn Manning, create your own fairy environment in a hanging terrarium. The free presentation (donations welcome!) will give each poet a chance to shine reading poems from the book as well as other poems they have written. Hot off the press copies will be available for sale for only $8.50 and, of course, the authors will be on hand to autograph their work. Refreshments will be served.

Old Salts Day
Professional sailors can take a free tour on Tuesday, August 1. So if you’ve served in any country’s navy or coast guard, worked a commercial fishing boat, merchant ship, or if you can give a convincing story about the time you were a pirate, come on board! www.mobydick.org for tour times.
