I Will Never Forget online exhibit

Thousands of Berkshires men and women served in the armed services, Red Cross, and Civil Defense during World War II.  With clothing, photographs, objects and documents from the collections of the Berkshire County Historical Society, we are privileged to tell the stories of a few of those who served.  For them, it was an experience that was never forgotten.  We, too, need to remember. 

 Lieutenant Artig served in Europe with the U.S. Army Air Corps

Sergeant Ballato served throughout the Pacific and the Caribbean with the U.S. Air Force

Machinist's Mate Dojka served in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy

 Earl Emerson Ferry served as his neighborhood's Chief Civilian Defense Warden in Pittsfield, MA

 Private Henry served in Italy with the U.S. Army

Lieutenant Colonel Howard served in both WWI and WWII with the U.S. Army

Lieutenant Instenes served in Africa and Italy with the U.S. Army Nurses Corps

Mary Lutz served as a driver in Berkshire County with the American Red Cross Ambulance Corps

Lieutenant Commander McCulloch served throughout the Pacific with the U.S. Naval Reserves

Sergeant Popp served in the Pacific with the 5th U.S. Air Force

Flight Engineer Procopio served in Africa and Italy with the U.S Army Air Corps

William Shirer served as an official CBS War Correspondent in Europe
